Seeking to unify his party, President Donald Trump has described the war in Iran as a “temporary excursion” rather than a permanent military entanglement. Trump told Republican leaders that the campaign is “very complete” and has already achieved the removal of major “evil” elements. He reassured allies that the U.S. military would not be bogged down in a long-term conflict, promising an exit “very soon.”
The war was sparked by a series of strikes that eliminated the senior Iranian leadership, leading to the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei. Trump has criticized the selection, calling it a “big mistake” and suggesting the new regime is inherently unstable. In the meantime, the U.S. and Israel have maintained a “broad wave” of aerial attacks to prevent any Iranian military recovery.
Trump highlighted that the Iranian military now lacks the “basic tools of war,” including a navy and a functional communications network. He praised the “technical skill” of the coalition forces, noting that the campaign has progressed much faster than the initial four-week estimate. The President’s narrative centers on a decisive victory that secures the Middle East for years to come.
The economic toll of the war has been a central concern, with oil prices fluctuating based on the status of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump issued a stern warning that any Iranian aggression against oil infrastructure would result in the “end of that country.” This aggressive posture helped stabilize energy markets that had been reeling from the initial outbreak of violence.
While the President speaks of a nearly finished mission, the conflict has caused significant displacement in Lebanon and casualties across the region. Trump’s “not won enough” comment suggests that while the heavy lifting is done, the U.S. remains vigilant. The focus is now shifting toward ensuring that the new Iranian leadership cannot rebuild its offensive capabilities.
