President Donald Trump has endorsed a burgeoning agreement to end the Gaza war as a “great deal for Israel,” with top diplomat Marco Rubio confirming the plan is on the cusp of completion. The US-brokered framework has reportedly been “basically” accepted by Hamas and focuses on securing the freedom of all Israeli hostages.
According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the deal is “90 per cent done,” with only logistical details remaining to be sorted out. The primary condition is a full hostage release by Hamas in exchange for Israel pulling its troops back to the “yellow line,” their position in mid-August. This critical step is seen as the key to unlocking a broader peace.
The negotiations have also achieved a preliminary consensus on the future of Gaza. Rubio stated that Hamas has agreed “in principle and generalities” to engage in a plan for the aftermath of the war. This development, though tentative, opens the door for long-term stability discussions once the immediate crisis is resolved.
While praising the deal, Trump delivered a severe ultimatum to Hamas, threatening “complete obliteration” should the group refuse to relinquish control of Gaza. He also confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the US vision and is on board with ending the bombing campaign, a crucial endorsement for the plan’s viability.
As technical talks proceed, the world awaits confirmation of Hamas’s commitment. Rubio suggested that a final answer on their seriousness would come “very quickly.” The successful resolution of the remaining details could pave the way for an end to the two-year-long conflict.
