The Netherlands is bracing for a spell of hot and sunny weather, with temperatures expected to soar above 30°C in many inland areas by Friday. However, the heatwave is likely to be interrupted by afternoon thunderstorms, potentially bringing heavy rain, hail, and strong winds to parts of the country.
Thursday’s forecast promises widespread sunshine, with temperatures peaking at around 27°C. The heat will intensify on Friday as thermometers in inland regions are expected to register between 30°C and 33°C. While the interior swelters, coastal areas will enjoy cooler temperatures thanks to a refreshing sea breeze from the west.
Weather experts have issued a yellow warning for severe thunderstorms in the provinces of Noord-Brabant, Gelderland, and Limburg, effective from 5 p.m. on Friday. These storms could lead to rapidly changing conditions, bringing a mix of heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds.
As the weekend approaches, Saturday’s forecast remains warm and summery inland, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 28°C, though the coast will continue to experience cooler weather. By Sunday, cloud coverage is expected to increase, raising the likelihood of showers over the weekend.
Looking ahead to next week, the weather is anticipated to become more unsettled, with an increased chance of rain and showers as the days progress. Temperatures are forecast to decline, with daytime highs dropping below 20°C, marking a shift from the current warm spell.
