The governments of the Netherlands and Belgium have decided to ban the importation of goods produced in Israeli settlements, a move that has been positively received by Qatar. According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this decision marks a significant advancement in efforts to counteract settlement activities within the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a public statement, Qatar’s Ministry emphasized that these bans align with international initiatives aimed at preventing the expansion of settlements, which it argues are in violation of international law, including United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334. The ministry views the actions of the Netherlands and Belgium as supportive of global efforts to address the ongoing settlement issues.
Qatar expressed optimism that additional countries might follow suit and implement similar measures. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the global community to assume its legal and moral duties by pressing Israel to cease settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing the importance of collective international action.
Reaffirming its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, Qatar reiterated its advocacy for a two-state solution. This proposal is based on the 1967 borders, with the aspiration that East Jerusalem will serve as the capital of a future independent Palestinian state.
