Greece Holds Netherlands to 2-2 Draw, Stays Atop Nations League Group

Greece maintained its lead in the Nations League group following a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in Thessaloniki on Thursday. The match saw Greece take an early advantage, dominating the first half with a two-goal lead.

The opening goal came in the 23rd minute when Fotis Ioannidis scored after receiving a header from Giorgos Masouras. Greece extended their lead in first-half stoppage time. Masouras found the net from close range after Ioannidis capitalized on a poor backpass from the Netherlands, setting up the opportunity.

In the second half, the Netherlands mounted a comeback. Virgil van Dijk reduced the deficit in the 59th minute, heading in a corner from Joey Veerman. Despite a crucial late save by Greece goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis, the Netherlands managed to equalize in the 89th minute with Tijjani Reijnders finishing from close range.

The draw leaves Greece at the top of the group with seven points, two points ahead of the Netherlands. Greece’s next match is against Germany, which will take place on Sunday.
