Israel has revoked the diplomatic credentials of Dutch officials stationed in the occupied West Bank, escalating tensions between the two nations over the Netherlands’ recent restrictions on goods from Israeli settlements. The decision follows the Dutch government’s move to limit imports originating from these settlements, a measure that took effect on September 22.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced that the Dutch Embassy was informed about the decision, stipulating that their diplomats in Ramallah have seven days to return their Israeli-issued diplomatic documents. This diplomatic rift highlights Israel’s strong opposition to international actions that target its settlements, a stance it has maintained amid criticism regarding its policies in the West Bank.
Sa’ar stated that Dutch officials wishing to continue their activities in the West Bank could still do so with authorization from the Palestinian Authority.
